Reading: We are continuing the unit, Bigger Books Mean Amping Up Reading Power. We'll continue to work on changing our voices to match the characters voice. Have your child practice this as they read aloud to you. We will also work on using strategies to help us keep track of bigger books.
Phonics: We are learning about -igh (night, bright, sigh, high, light, etc.) Red Words: knock, page, mother, rough For Language Arts, we are learning about suffixes. We've learned about Prefixes, root words, and this week suffixes. There will be a check up on these skills Feb. 11th. Writing: We will continue to work on opinion writing. We are writing longer letters and giving more details about our books. We'll nominate our books for awards and give our opinion of why they should receive that award. Math: 2.2 We will continue unit 3: Understanding Measurement, Length, and Time. We'll learn about measuring objects and using the data to create and interpret line plots. Practice problems for the Unit 3 test will be sent home mid week. The test will be February 10th. Math 3.1: We will continue Grade 3 unit 1: Numbers and Operations in Base 10. We are reviewing strategies of subtraction and using the strategies to solve word problems. Social Studies/Science: For social studies, we will have our end of the unit test on Civil Rights. A study outline was sent home on Thursday. For science, we will begin the astronomy unit and discuss the the rotation of the Earth that causes day and night. Reading: We are continuing the unit, Bigger Books Mean Amping Up Reading Power. We'll be working on changing our voices to match the characters voice, understanding character's point of view, as well as understanding what we have read. We will also learn about figurative language.
Phonics: We are focusing on multi-syllabic words. (tulip, hotel, topaz, raven, music, open, basic, unit, token, ego, latex, etc.) Red Words: different, change, through Writing: We will continue to work on opinion writing. We are writing longer letters and giving more details about our books. Math: 2.2 We will continue unit 3: Understanding Measurement, Length, and Time. We'll work on solving word problems involving measurment. Math 3.1: We will continue Grade 3 unit 1: Numbers and Operations in Base 10. We are learning about the properties of addition.
Social Studies: This week we are learning about Juliette Gordon Low. She was the founder of Girl Scouts. Don't forget this Friday is Georgia Leader Day. We'll work on measuring items using inches, feet, and yards. We will also estimate the length of objects. Math 3.1: We will continue Grade 3 unit 1: Numbers and Operations in Base 10. We will continue working on rounding numbers and using estimation in real life situations. We will also learn the properties of addition Social Studies: We are continuing our Civil Rights unit and will learn about Jackie Robinson. Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. Reading: We are starting our next unit, Bigger Books Mean Amping Up Reading Power. We'll be working on reading voices, scooping up words into phrases, and noticing dialogue tags.
Phonics: Review: We will be reviewing skills that we have taught this year.
