Reading: We are continuing our nonfiction reading unit. We are reviewing this week for our unit test on Friday. Focus is on main idea, key details, text features, and context clues.
Phonics: Red words: clear, another, other, our, over Red words need to be read fluently and spelled correctly. This week we are focusing on the skill that /ea/ has a long /e/ vowel sound and it can be in the beginning, middle, or end of words.. Language Arts: Our grammar skill is possessive nouns. Possessive nouns show ownership by adding an 's to the end of nouns. Writing: We continue our non-fiction writing. We will be writing about pumpkins for the next three weeks. Math: This week we are working on scaled bar graphs, picture graphs, and introducing line plots. Social Studies: We continue our study on Georgia's first people. This week we will learn about James Oglethorpe and Tomochichi. Reading: We are continuing our nonfiction reading unit. This week we are using context clues to determine word meanings. Some types of context clues include using word parts, synonyms, antonyms, examples, and definitions.

Ay can usually be found at the end of words. Ai can usually be found in the middle of the word. Example: play, stray, May, trail, snail, strain Language Arts: Our grammar skill is possessive nouns. Possessive nouns show ownership by adding an 's to the end of nouns. Writing: This week we are writing an informational book on animals. Math: We are learning time to the hour, half hour, and nearest five minutes, as well as, learning about am/pm. Social Studies: We are learning about the Cherokee Native Americans. (homes, tools, jobs, food, clothing). We are comparing the Cherokee to the Creek native americans. Reading: We are continuing our nonfiction reading unit. This week we are finding the author's purpose. We are using PIE (persuade, inform, or entertain). Then we are diving deeper and using ADE (answer, describe, or explain). We are also using text features while we read nonfiction texts and explaining how the text features provide us with additional information. Text features include, bold print words, heading, table of contents, glossary, caption, diagrams, etc.)
Phonics: This week we will be learning to encode multisyllable v/cv words with open and closed syllables (long vowel sound - open, short vowel sound - closed). Examples include, hu/mid, ro/bot. Red words: are, both, have, said Red words need to be read fluently and spelled correctly. Language Arts: We will continue to learn about irregular verbs. Quick check on Friday. Writing: We will continue to work on nonfiction writing. We are adding non-fiction text features to our informational writing pieces. We will wrap up on informational book this week. Math: We are learning time to the hour, half hour, and nearest five minutes, as well as, learning about am/pm. Social Studies: We are learning about the Creek Native Americans. Writing: We will continue to work on nonfiction writing. Math: We are taking the MAP math assessment this week. We are also comparing lengths of objects. Since it is a shorter week, math homework this week will be to complete 30 min of i-ready math by Friday. Social Studies: We are beginning our next unit, Georgia's first People and learning about the Cherokee Native Americans. Reading: This week, we will continue our next unit,, Becoming Experts at Reading Nonfiction. We are focusing on finding the main idea and supporting details in a passage.

Examples for or: fork, sort, corn, hornet, horn, torn Red words: heavy, knew, love, watch, yard Red words need to be read fluently and spelled correctly. Language Arts: We will continue to learn about irregular verbs. Writing: We will continue to work on nonfiction writing. Math: We will continue to learn about measurement. This week we are comparing inches and cm and also learning about the difference in lengths of objects. Science: We will review for our test on matter. The test is on Wednesday this week. |
