Reading: We continue to work on our non-fiction unit. Our focus is main idea and supporting details. We practice organizing the main idea into categories with semantic webs.
Language Arts/Phonics: (same as last week) red words are: whose, they're, live, once Phonics: words ending with -old, -ost, -olt, -ild, -ind These endings are "rule breakers" - the wild colt words. Usually when a vowel is followed by a consonant in a one syllable word, it will make the short vowel sound. In this case, the vowel is long. Here are some examples of rule breakers: bold, sold, most, post, bolt, colt, wild, mild, bind, find Language Arts: We continue to focus on collective nouns (group, troop, crowd, flock) and irregular plural nouns (feet, children, teeth, mice, fish) Writing: We continue to work on non-fiction writing. Our focus is on informational writing. . Science: We continue to work on our astronomy unit: Sun, Moon, and Stars. We will wrap up this unit next week. Math 3.1: We continue to work on Third Grade, Unit 1 - Numbers and Operations in Base Ten. This week we will focus on drawing picture and bar graphs to represent data with several categories, and solving one- and two step problems using the information in the graphs. Students are also using line plots to gather information. We will also focus on subtraction with regrouping within 1,000. Due to the school closings this week, our unit 1 test is moved to Friday, March 20th. Math 3.2: Students are moving into Third grade, Unit 5. Representing and Comparing Fractions. Math: 2.2 We are studying unit 4, Applying Base Ten Understanding. Students are working on solving word problems involving money. Math 3.1: We continue to work on Third Grade, Unit 1 - Numbers and Operations in Base Ten. This week we will focus on drawing picture and bar graphs to represent data with several categories, and solving one- and two step problems using the information in the graphs. We will also focus on subtraction with regrouping within 1,000. We will most likely have our Unit 1 test on Wednesday, March 11th. Math 3.2: Students are reviewing Third Grade, Unit 4 this week. Test on this unit is scheduled for Friday, March 6th. |
